I must admit, I feel awesome in the fact that for the first time I may not have to crunch read the day before school starts in August. After spending my Friday, Saturday, and most of my Sunday in a San Luis camp site for a training weekend I somehow found my self at Barnes & Noble.
After years of "window shopping" in the Fiction section of B&N, I finally put my skills of book searching to good use. After going through the alphabet out loud, (and perhaps irking a few customers) I quickly found my good friend Jane Austen and some random author named Barbara Kingsolver. Finding Michel de Montaigne was much more difficult, and a quick warning to all of my fellow AP Lit students, I learned that Mr. de Montaigne will and cannot be found in the Non-Fiction section nor can it be found in the entire store. The "Essays of Michel de Montaigne" must be ordered online if you wish to purchase it from B&N. It costs about $20 including tax and shipping, and is mailed directly to your casa.
I'm a little weird when it comes to summer reading lists as I prefer to buy my own books so that even when summer is over I can still look back or even reread the book if so choose. And while this system works well for me it may not work well for everyone. Especially since the cost of books can quickly add up, I do suggest looking on different websites or searching different stores, or even renting the books from the library (the number of avaliable books may be limited, so I would definitly get started). Above all just go with whatever system works well for you.
I plan on starting "Poisonwood Bible" by Kingsolver this week so I will hopefully start posting my reading notes and chapter summaries online sometime this week. As we head into the final weeks of our Junior year I suggest starting the summer assignments now as these books are not short.
Best of Luck,
